Skincare Routine

Hello again!

So to start off all this guru-ness I decided to post a blog entry concerning skin care.  When I was first starting to dabble in the makeup arts I never realized how essential a good skincare routine was.  I always thought that having pimples is what having concealer and foundation was for.  Wrong wrong wrong.  Trust me, you WANT to put the concealer/foundation people out of business because you already have such beautiful skin that doesn't need covering up. As for me, I don't have flawless skin in the least. But I'm taking measures to make it as flawless as possible.  If you've ever walked around Korea (or just saw Korean girls in TV shows) you'll notice that they don't have much makeup on. Koreans sport an all-natural look with minimal face makeup and with more emphasis on the eyes and mouth.  And to me, they don't need anything on their face since it's already very perfect looking.  I marveled at how my friend in Korea had such perfect skin.  I keep thinking that she has makeup on but upon further inspection I realized I was staring at her bare-naked face. (//sigh why can't we all be like that?)

But anyway~ onto the routine!

1) Cleanser: I always cleanse my face twice daily (one in the morning to get rid of excess oils that will accumulate throughout the day/ and one at night when I'm showering).  I use the Clinique Acne Solution Cleansing Foam. It's a great way to unclog pores left by makeup or just to make sure your face is a clean canvas for the start of the day!

2) Acne Spot Healing Gel from Clinique: Since I do have Acne spots I use this gel to target them.  However be warned, because it contains ingredients such as Sacyllic Acid it will dry out the skin which will cause irritation and even more breakouts since your body will over-produce oil to help out your skin.

3) Moisturize Moisturize Moisturize: I use Clean and Clear Dual action moisturizer for acne.  So yes this is a 2 in 1 but any moisturizer will do.  You need to find a harmonious balance between oil and non-oil but to strip your face clean of ALL oil isn't the way to do it.  Make sure to moisturize your face as that will keep it healthy.

4) Eye cream: I use a de-puffer and dark circle corrector for eye cream.  It's always better to prevent wrinkles now then to treat later.  Use eye cream that targets a specific problem of your eyes.  If you have perfect eyes then get one that will keep them that way!

5) Sunscreen!: Many people underestimate the power of sunscreen.  If you're going out where there's any little chance of light, put on sunscreen.  If not then the UV rays (though beneficial for the vitamin D) will harm your skin and you may get dark spots or premature wrinkles. Also, try not to squint in the sun. I use Sephora's mattifying moisturizer and sunscreen with SPF 20.  Try to get a sunscreen with at least SPF of 20.

Well that's about it! A good and solid skincare routine will definitely help out guys and g'alls who want to keep their skin looking youthful for as long as they can.  You don't need to do makeup if you have beautiful skin.  I see makeup as a way to enhance features, not to cover up.  So have a wonderful day guys and I'll be back for more soon!
